Los Amantes Mezcal is inspired by the Aztec legend of Mayahuel, who despite her grandmother’s control fled and met with her lover Quetzalcoatl. This defiance cost Mayahuel her life. Los Amantes, “the lovers.”
Mezcal Los Amantes has been producing mezcal artesanal since 2007 in Tlacolula de Matamoros, in the Central Valley Region, Oaxaca. Los Amantes produces mezcal artesanal from 100% agave Espadín (angustifolia), and offers 3 classes of mezcal; joven, reposado and añejo which I am tasting here. You can also visit their tasting room in Oaxaca and taste a variety of mezcales they produce from different agaves as well.

Tasting Notes
The visual evaluation consists of a clear amber color. Light aromas, right away noticing the hints from the oak barrels, with caramel, vanilla, and oak. The unique agave aromas are second to the aging aromas. Fruitful notes are very ripe or cooked fruit, cooked apple, and grape, tobacco, and honey aroma.
Mouthfeel, the alcohol is generous but smooth. Caramelized flavor, predominant flavors from the aging and oak barrels.
