After a pretty long hiatus from creating any type of content, I’m back and determined to stick to the regularly scheduled content, every #MezcalMonday. Being away and out of practice for so long, has put my taste buds in a sort of state of faint perception. So I am quite elated to be back at doing tastings, and pretty certain this is a mezcal I will soon revisit.
Mezquila is a mezcal I came across while I was in Puebla in a quaint little town called Val’Quirico. While enjoying some pulque at Pulcata I realized there is a mezcal shop next door called Mezcalorama. So, I made my way over to take a look. Several options caught my eye, and though I didn’t plan on buying anything, well, I decided to take a bottle of Mezquila. The name cleverly indicating a combination of Tequila + Mezcal, though not in the actual liquid. Rather, the traditional method of production as mezcal, and the raw material of Tequila, the agave Tequilana or blue weber.
Wanting More
Mequila caught my attention, yet left me wanting more, even before I’ve broken the seal on the bottle. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, the label on the bottle should really include a great deal of information, almost TMI. This mezcal left several details unknown. Even after a search for more information, nothing can be found about the brand. Consequently, the debut of the new Mezcal Buzz tasting journal was left a short in particular information to fill.

Taste
Mezquila starts off with a short and light aroma and gives off a vegetal aroma with hints of green apple and fresh-cut grass. A simple character with an aroma lasting about 1-2 seconds tops.
Upon taste evaluation, a very light body with no kick and a slightly drying sensation. Flavors are quite vague, with light ash on the tail end, flavors of slight agave sweetness, and bitterness leading into the ash of the retro breath. Very light in body, that lacks in complexity.
