Mezcal Cocktail Recipe: Pasíon Campante | Mezcalogy

Welcome to Mezcalogy, a new cocktail series on Mezcal Buzz! After completing the Agave Spirits Institute Level 4 course (which included an incredible mixology section), I’ve been itching to dive into mezcal cocktails. So, let’s kick things off with a delicious recipe featuring Mezcal Campante.

What is Mezcal Campante?

Mezcal Campante is an ensamble of Espadín and Barril agaves, making it a smooth yet complex spirit perfect for cocktails. If you haven’t yet, check out our Mezcal Campante tasting video for a full breakdown of its flavors.

Ingredients for the Pasíon Campante Cocktail:

  • 2 oz Mezcal Campante (original recipe calls for 1.5 oz, but we like more mezcal!)
  • Fresh strawberries (original calls for raspberry, blueberry, and cranberry, but I used what I had!)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 2-3 limes)
  • 1.5 oz simple syrup (or agave syrup for a richer flavor)
  • Ice
  • 1 oz ginger ale

Instructions:

  1. Muddle the Fruit – Add fresh strawberries (or your choice of berries) to a shaker and muddle them well.
  2. Add Mezcal & Lime Juice – Pour in 2 oz of Mezcal Campante and 1 oz of fresh lime juice.
  3. Sweeten It – Add 1.5 oz of simple syrup or agave syrup.
  4. Shake It Up – Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
  5. Prepare Your Glass – Add ice to a serving glass to chill it.
  6. Strain & Serve – Strain the cocktail into the glass.
  7. Top with Ginger Ale – Pour in 1 oz of ginger ale for a refreshing finish.
  8. Stir & Enjoy – Give it a gentle stir and enjoy your Pasíon Campante!

Tasting Notes:

This cocktail balances the smokiness of Mezcal Campante with the tartness of lime and the sweetness of agave syrup. The muddled berries add a fresh fruitiness, while the ginger ale brings a light, effervescent kick.
