From Lives to Legacy: How Amigas y Mezcal Got Started
What began as a few Instagram Lives and a passion for agave quickly evolved into a cultural movement. Co-founders of Amigas y Mezcal launched the project out of a desire to spotlight women and family-run agave brands. Mayra shared:
“We saw women getting involved in the industry and wanted to give them a platform—not just for our my family’s brand (Mezcal Hacienda Oponguio), but for others that are just getting started too.”
The project quickly found momentum through digital content, community events, and word of mouth. With a deep-rooted respect for culture and tradition, they now use their platform to elevate lesser-known producers and share authentic stories with their growing audience.
Shining a Light on Women and Hidden Gems
Christina, the co-host and driving force behind the brand’s outreach, explained the mission clearly:
“There are so many amazing brands that haven’t been discovered yet. People say the market is saturated, but we’re finding hidden gems all the time. And many of them are led by women.”
From highlighting female founders and distillers to opening conversations about challenges faced in the industry, Amigas y Mezcal provides more than exposure—it offers representation and community.
