At this year’s Salud Amigos Fest, the Mezcal Buzz Media Corner was honored to welcome Yazmin Trujillo, co-founder of Tesoro Azteca Tequila, who shared her passion, purpose, and progress in the world of agave spirits. Tesoro Azteca Takes the Main Bar Stage

One of the standout features at this year’s festival was the main bar activation, sponsored by Tesoro Azteca Tequila. Yazmin brought on two of her favorite mixologists—Tequila Papi and Moché Sips—to craft signature cocktails using their tequila.

“Both cocktails were amazing,” Yazmin said. “They surpassed everything I thought I was going to try. Every note, every flavor—just incredible.”

The synergy between brand and bartender created a powerful moment of connection, demonstrating the importance of collaboration and representation in the agave community.

A Milestone for the Master Distiller

A truly emotional highlight was seeing Yazmin’s husband and Tesoro Azteca’s Master Distiller, Mauricio, recognized on stage alongside other industry legends.

“That moment brought me to tears,” Yazmin shared. “We’ve worked so hard, and it’s an honor to be in this space and see our work recognized.”

Mauricio’s hands-on involvement in recent years has helped elevate the quality and creativity of each new batch—something Yazmin says is deeply felt in the brand’s progress.

Growth, Mistakes, and Evolution

In a refreshingly transparent moment, Yazmin shared the brand’s early challenges—including a batch that didn’t meet expectations. But instead of hiding it, she embraces it as part of their growth journey:

“We made mistakes, but we learned and came back stronger. That’s what makes me proud—we’re still standing.”

As the brand evolves, exciting updates are on the horizon:

• A new bottle design—lighter, bartender-friendly, and allowing space for batch-specific labels
• A high-proof release—set to launch next year
• European expansion—Tesoro Azteca will soon be available across Europe

Through it all, the iconic diamond-shaped bottle top will remain, a tribute to the powerful women who’ve helped shape the agave spirits industry.
